I run a 50-cart rental fleet in Charleston, SC. For years, I lost carts the same way every other operator loses gear — guests took them home, employees parked them at the wrong rental, one or two flat-out got stolen every season.
I tried the GPS trackers. $200 a unit, $15 a month per tracker, batteries that died every couple weeks, and a website that looked like it was last updated in 2009. The math didn't work. Not for 50 carts. Definitely not for 500.
So we built the thing we actually wanted: stick a cheap tag on every asset, hide all the Apple ID and data plumbing, and give operators one clean live map. No per-tracker monthly bill. No batteries to swap every two weeks. No 2009 website.
That's it. That's the whole company.
Why tags beat GPS for most operators.
Cheap. A tag costs about $25 once. A GPS tracker is $150–$300, plus a SIM card, plus a monthly fee per device. On a 100-asset fleet that's the difference between $2,500 and $30,000+ before you've tracked anything.
Battery you can forget about. A coin cell lasts a year. GPS trackers need recharging weekly or hardwired power — neither works on a trailer parked in a yard.
No per-tracker monthly fees. You pay us per asset, period. No SIM bills, no carrier renegotiation, no per-unit "data plan."
Coverage is everywhere people are. Apple's Find My network has hundreds of millions of phones acting as relays. Anywhere there are iPhones — cities, suburbs, highways, gas stations — your gear gets seen.
GPS still wins for trucks doing long-haul or remote backcountry work. For the other 95% of fleet operators, tags are the right tool.
